A 39-year-old man is facing 11 weapons-related charges after 17 guns and explosive materials were found during a search of a Regina home.
Police said the investigation started July 1, when they arrested a 20-year-old man with a gun in the area of Third Avenue and Elizabeth Crescent.
Officers traced the gun to the 39-year-old, who was arrested for failing to report his gun had been lost and/or stolen.
“It became evident that the male had made other firearms purchases and was not following the laws required of a licensed firearms owner,” police said in a media release.
As a result, police got a warrant to search a house in the 2200 block of McIntyre Street on Thursday. Police found 14 long guns, three handguns, a crossbow, thousands of rounds of ammunition, over-capacity magazines for handguns and long guns, and explosive materials, including smoke grenades.
The Regina Police Service’s bomb squad was called out to deal with the explosives.
The man was charged with three counts each of careless storage of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of weapons trafficking, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, and not reporting a lost or stolen firearm.
He was to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Friday.
