Summer holidays were still going Wednesday, with lots of kids ready to soak up the sunshine by going for a swim at pools in Regina.
There was a big turnout at Massey Pool, with kids cooling off on their last day before schools open for classes Thursday.
Environment Canada issued a heat warning with a high of 34 C on Wednesday.
Many kids were ready to go, heading into the changerooms with wagons stocked with pool toys, picnic blankets and beach towels.
Emmett Blyth headed into the pool, googles in hand, with his dad and younger brother. His favourite part of swimming at the pool is jumping off the diving board.
Blyth said when he’s not at the pool, hot days are meant for helping out in the garden. This year, he helped out landscaping his family’s yard, and planted a lot of ferns.
According to Blyth, the best way to spend a hot summer day was by “eating a Popsicle.”
Another swimmer who was ready to make a splash at the pool was Harlow Kuemper, who said she really likes to swim at the pool when it’s hot out.
She was ready to cannonball into the deep end with lifejacket in hand to practise her floats. Kuemper was going to work on her front floats and back floats because she wants to be extra prepared for swimming lessons that start in the fall.
“I like to swim by floating on my back and going on my tummy,” said Kuemper.
After she finishes practising her floats, she likes to play her favourite game, Follow the Leader.
Kuemper said although she spent lots of time at the pool, she really liked to go to the lake when it’s hot.
“We went to the beach and the park,” said Kuemper, describing her camping trip this summer.
Kuemper likes to cool off at the pool, but also at the ice cream stand with her favourite, strawberry soft-serve.
Some favourite pool games are Marco Polo, tag and Red Light Green Light, but Lucy McKechnie says her favourite game is the best one at the pool.
“I like to play mermaids,” said McKechnie.
Lucy and her sister Harper were thrilled to be spending the day at the pool. After they were done playing mermaids, they said they were to going to jump off the diving board.
Harper, who is going into Grade 3, said people can never stay too cool when swimming at the pool. She likes swimming with her head all the way underwater.
Lucy thinks there’s no better place to spend a hot day than at the pool.
