Kids are heading back to school for a brand new school year on Thursday.
Many kids have their school supplies labelled and book bags packed and are ready to board the bus to school.
Roen Kimber-Dietrick is thrilled to start her first day of kindergarten.
“It’s just so exciting,” said Kimber-Dietrick, who completed playschool last year. “It’s just so new to me when you’ve been in different schools you’ve never been in.”
Out of everything to look forward to, she said she is the most eager about riding the school bus.
Roen’s mom, Kendra Kimber-Dietrick, said that every first day is “exciting and horrible.” Each year seeing her kids grow up is tough, but she can’t wait to see what her kids accomplish within the year.
Kendra said with school bags packed, all that’s left is to take the first day of school picture.
This year will the first time that Jahdaine Blagrove will be going to school in a new country. The kindergarten student moved from Jamaica with his family in December.
“I’m most excited to learn about drawing,” said Blagrove. “I am most excited to draw a dog.”
On top of art class, Blagrove said he can’t wait to slide down the slides on the school playground at recess.
Blagrove was not as interested in the academics of the school, but did say he was excited to learn a new language going to a French immersion school.
Chloe Desjarlais is 10 years old and optimistic about starting Grade 6.
“I’m a little scared, but also really excited,” said Desjarlais.
Desjarlais said she’s ready to start the school year but is going to miss summer because that’s when she gets to “see my family a lot more.”
A few kids will not be heading off to school Thursday’s, because they’ll be starting with online learning next week.
Alex and Claudia Kessler will be a part of the program starting after Labour Day.
“I’m most excited to learn how to read and spell,” said Claudia, who’s eager to go back to school next week.
Alex said while he’s getting geared up to get ready to head back to school, he said he will miss summer vacations like trips to Fernie, B.C.
He said he’ll fondly remember his family’s summer trips biking through the mountains while he does his schoolwork.
