A second man has been handed a prison sentence for his role in Regina’s ninth murder of 2017.
Timothy Louison was one of two men originally charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Thurston Mintuck on Dec. 3, 2017.
On Wednesday in Regina Court of King’s Bench, Louison pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of intimidation of a witness.
Louison was handed an 18-year sentence on the manslaughter charge and two years concurrent on the intimidation charge. They’re to be served consecutively to sentences that already are being served. He also received a lifetime firearms prohibition.
Louison’s co-accused, Nayo Fox, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and intimidation on June 15 and was sentenced to 10 1/2 years in prison.
According to a police media release from December of 2019, officers found Mintuck injured in the 1200 block of Retallack Street in the early hours of Dec. 3, 2017. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Louison and Fox were arrested Dec. 13, 2019 and charged with first-degree murder.
In June of 2020, the Regina Police Service said the men — both of whom were in custody at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre — “were allegedly disguising their use of the phone systems at the Centre to avoid detection while threatening and intimidating witnesses for an upcoming criminal trial.”
Police say the calls were made between December and April of 2019.
