A Regina man is off to jail in connection with an explosives incident in Regina nearly two years ago.
Lyndon Adrian Chamberlin was sentenced to 295 days behind bars after appearing in Regina Provincial Court on Wednesday on two explosives-related charges, and an additional 30 days concurrent on charges of failing to appear in court and failing to comply with a release order.
Chamberlin was to be sentenced on the explosives charges on May 25 of this year, but he didn’t appear in court. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and more charges were laid against him.
On Wednesday, he also got 180 days consecutive for a violation of the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, for a total of 475 days behind bars.
Three other charges related to the explosives call were stayed.
In a media release dated Dec. 1, 2020, the Regina Police Service said officers were flagged down on Nov. 28 of that year at about 3:45 p.m., in the area of 11th Avenue and Rose Street by three boys who had found a suspicious package outside a business.
The release said police were given “a red bag containing four fluid-filled containers, with what appeared to be a wick tied to each.” A search of the business didn’t find any other suspicious packages.
The police service’s bomb squad tested the fluid in the containers and determined it was combustible and explosive.
Surveillance video supplied by security personnel at the business showed a man carrying a bag that matched the one left outside the business. Police said the man left the bag when he saw a police car that was in the area on an unrelated matter.
