A 33-year-old Regina man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting staff at a restaurant, falling asleep on the street and then assaulting the police officer who tried to wake him up.
According to police, the man was at a restaurant on Albert Street on Wednesday afternoon and he refused to leave when staff asked him to. In response, police said, he assaulted both a staff member and a security officer at the restaurant before finally leaving.
While police were taking statements from staff members, an officer with the police Canine Team spotted a man lying on the ground on Angus Street nearby.
“When the canine officer tried to rouse this male, he became combative and allegedly struck the officer,” police said.
Security footage confirmed it was the same man in both incidents, police said, and he was promptly arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count of assaulting a peace officer. He made his first court appearance Thursday.
