A 26-year-old man is facing explosives charges after he was allegedly caught with two “improvised explosive devices” after a confrontation at a business on Broad Street on Monday.
Police said staff at the business told a man to leave after spotting him trying to steal things. The man flashed a knife before leaving, police said, and he joined another man in a nearby alley.
Officers detained both men, and a search turned up a collection of weapons. One of the men was carrying a knife, a small hatchet and the two improvised explosives, police said, while the other was carrying knives and ammunition.
Both men are now facing criminal charges, police said.
A 26-year-old man from Lestock was charged with unlawful possession of explosives, possession of an explosive substance contrary to a probation order, possession of break-in instruments, and breaching a release order.
A 20-year-old Regina man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of possession of ammunition contrary to a probation order.
