A 40-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly driving while impaired, hitting and injuring a pedestrian, and then running from Regina police when they arrived on the scene.
The whole thing started shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, police said, when officers were called to the corner of 12th Avenue and Broad Street after a truck collided with a pedestrian.
While the victim, a 45-year-old man, was being treated at the scene by paramedics, officers spotted another man walking toward a black Dodge Ram truck that was parked nearby.
When police ordered the man to stop, he allegedly jumped into the truck and took off.
Police said a spike belt was used during the pursuit. After continuing for “a short distance,” the driver was arrested.
A 40-year-old resident of Buena Vista is now charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a breath demand, failing to stop after an accident, and obstructing a peace officer.
He was released on an undertaking to answer the charges in provincial court next month, police said.
