A Regina police officer deployed a police dog and a taser during an incident with a man.
The Regina Police Service said a member of the canine unit came across a man in the 1000 block of Angus Street around 5:50 p.m. Saturday.
Police said the man pointed a can of bear mace at the officer in a threatening manner. This led to the officer giving warnings and commands, which the man reportedly ignored.
The office then deployed a police service dog, and police indicate the man used the bear mace on the animal.
The officer then deployed their taser twice – the first cycle was ineffective so the officer had to use it again.
The man was taken into custody had has been charged with assault on a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting arrest.
The use of the taser has been documented by the RPS and will be subject to internal review by a Use of Force Review Board and external oversight by the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
