A project at Regina’s YWCA is among the 28 infrastructure projects getting funding from the federal and provincial governments.
The YWCA Regina is building a healing space and ceremony lodge as part of its Centre for Women and Families project. The goal of the project is to help people access Elders, ceremony, traditional knowledge, medicine and teachings.
The federal government is investing more than $1.5 million in the project, the provincial government is adding more than $1.2 million and the YWCA is providing more than $1 million.
The feds are putting up more than $25.4 million for the 28 projects. The Saskatchewan government is contributing $19.2 million, and recipients are contributing more than $14.6 million.
“All Canadian families deserve to have access to modern, reliable services that improve their quality of life — and that is exactly what we are delivering today,” Dominic LeBlanc, Canada’s minister of intergovernmental affairs, infrastructure and communities, said in a media release issued Thursday.
“Working with our Saskatchewan partners, we will continue to build stronger communities across Saskatchewan.”
The largest investment — more than $37 million in total — is going to Meadow Lake, which is building a new 123,000-square-foot recreational facility. The centre is to feature an NHL-sized ice surface, a pleasure rink, a fieldhouse, and an event hall.
The Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man First Nation is getting around $6 million from the federal and provincial governments for a new 1,342-square-metre Interpretive Cultural Art Gallery.
