The founder of the extremist group Diagolon has been denied bail by a Saskatoon Provincial Court judge.
Jeremy Mackenzie, 36, was arrested last week on a Canada-wide warrant originating in Saskatchewan on charges of assault, pointing a firearm, using a restricted weapon in a careless manner, and mischief. According to the RCMP, the assault allegedly occurred in November of 2021 in the RM of Viscount.
Mackenzie also was charged in Nova Scotia with 13 firearms offences in January, and with harassment and intimidation in March after an anti-mask protest outside the home of Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health.
Days before his arrest, he allegedly spoke online about sexually assaulting the wife of Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. Police said those alleged comments were not related to his arrest.
Mackenzie appeared Friday morning at a bail hearing held at Saskatoon Provincial Court. His bail was denied, a court clerk confirmed, and he was scheduled to make another court appearance next week.
