A man and a woman are facing gun and drug charges, after snooze in a car turned into a police chase.
According to police, officers got a call about a suspicious vehicle on Coleman Crescent Thursday morning, and when they arrived, officers saw two people sleeping in the front seats. But that’s not all they saw.
“Officers could also see a firearm and ammunition in plain view inside the vehicle,” police said.
More units were called in as backup, and police yelled to wake up the sleeping pair and let them know they were under arrest.
The male driver woke up, but allegedly ignored the commands from officers, and drove away. Police deployed a spike belt to deflate the vehicle’s tires, but the driver continued for several minutes before crashing into a fence.
The driver took off on foot after the crash, police said, and a police dog tracked him to his hiding spot in a shed, where he was arrested. The dog didn’t make contact with him during the chase, police noted.
Meanwhile, police said other officers arrested the woman who was still inside the car, and seized a shotgun and ammunition. A search of the car also turned up “substances believed to be methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine” along with drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Both suspects, a 25-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, are now facing a lengthy list of charges, largely related to drugs and firearms.
