The discovery of a woman’s body led to traffic restrictions on a Saskatchewan highway on Sunday.
In a media release Monday, the RCMP said the body of 24-year-old Wendy Bird was found just after 8 a.m., near Highway 16 near the community of Maymont. Lanes of the highway were blocked for around six hours before reopening.
The Mounties said they were releasing the Prince Albert woman’s name to assist in the investigation.
“Based on preliminary investigation, her death is considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating,” the RCMP release said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Anyone with information about Bird’s whereabouts from Friday through Sunday morning or anyone who saw suspicious activity on Highway 16 near Maymont on Saturday evening is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
Maymont is about 50 kilometres southeast of North Battleford.
