Garbage collection and how you pay for it could soon be changing in Regina.
At a city committee meeting Wednesday, council members voted unanimously to further a proposal that would see households pay directly for all three types of bin services as opposed to doing so through property taxes.
Currently, just recycling is paid for directly.
This would mean that households could pay $193 per year if they have a 240-litre bin or $284 for a 360-litre bin.
Kim Onrait, the city’s executive director of citizen services, explained how it could work.
“The smaller the cart, the smaller the user fee would be. There is about $95 difference between those two cart sizes when you look at the overall cost of the program,” Onrait said.
Council will vote on the measure next Wednesday at its meeting after the motion was unanimously passed.
