If you’ve been driving around Regina over the past couple of months, there’s a good chance you’ve seen a couple of murals pop up on the side of some businesses and streets.
That’s because the City of Regina’s Audacity Mural Project is in full swing.
The goal of the project, according to Josh Stewart-Van Dusen, is to lighten up the city and give it some more colour.
“What you’re seeing across the project is the Audacity Mural Project,” he said. “That project is run by EDR (Economic Development Regina) to kind of empower the city and add some beautiful murals around the city with some powerful messaging as well to make sure the landscape of our audacious city is recognized and championed.”
Since the project’s launch this summer, artists have completed five projects and eight murals in total. Their goal is to have 25 different murals in the city by 2025.
“It’s been an exciting summer,” Stewart-Van Dusen said. “We did about 10,000 square feet of public art for Phase 1, so it has been a busy summer with paintbrushes, that’s for sure.”
With the project gaining traction, Stewart-Van Dusen suggests organizers are still looking for people and businesses to help and support.
“We have a website and you can go there and check them out. You can submit your request to become an artist. If you have an artistic touch and would like to illustrate and add a little bit of flair to the city, we’d love to have a conversation,” he added.
“I think it’s exciting to collaborate and we’re looking for people that can donate walls and their real estate to kind of add a touch of colour.”
Stewart-Van Dusen mentioned organizers are also accepting cash donations so they can keep the program alive.
You can see all of the murals and help out by heading to their website.
