The driver of a vehicle that ended up in an excavation pit on Maple Vista Drive on Wednesday has been charged.
In a media release Thursday, Regina police said the driver was charged with failing to obey the instructions of a traffic control device.
According to police, officers responded Wednesday at about 1:45 p.m., to a call of a vehicle that had driven into a large hole in the street. A City of Regina crew had been repairing a water main and had dug the hole.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries.
The police investigation determined the man ignored signs saying the road was closed for construction.
“The Regina Police Service along with the City of Regina would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of obeying all road signage,” the release said.
“Signs in construction zones contain important information to alert drivers of road work, traffic conditions and closures that are meant to protect workers and the public.”
