A Regina woman has pleaded guilty in the death of her two-year-old daughter.
Brittney Burghardt appeared by phone at Court of King’s Bench on Tuesday, when her lawyer entered a plea of guilty to a charge of manslaughter. Burghardt initially was charged with second-degree murder.
She also pleaded guilty to a charge of forcible confinement charge.
The lawyer for Burghardt requested a pre-sentence report to be completed. That report will focus on Burghardt’s mental health issues and cognitive capacity.
The matter was adjourned to March 17.
All of this stemmed from an investigation by police in June of 2021.
At that time, police were called to a home in the 2300 block of Retallack Street after a toddler had been seriously injured in a fall down a flight of stairs.
The child was transported by air to hospital in Saskatoon, where she died four days later.
