The Saskatchewan government says it took just four days to fill the fourth flight of displaced Ukrainians bound for the province.
The government started accepting registrations Nov. 10 and 230 people quickly signed up. The flight is slated to arrive in Saskatoon next Wednesday.
The first three of the humanitarian flights landed in Regina.
“Saskatchewan has seen a tremendous response to the fourth application window, with all 230 seats on the fourth flight filled in under four days,” Minister of Immigration and Career Training Jeremy Harrison said in a media release.
“The Government of Saskatchewan is ready for the next wave of Ukrainian families with many supports in place for their upcoming arrival. Saskatchewan will continue to support Ukraine and its people for as long as needed.”
The government said that once the fourth flight touches down, some 2,700 Ukrainian citizens will have arrived in Saskatchewan since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began.
The flights to the province were arranged in partnership with the humanitarian organizations Solidaire and Open Arms. Representatives of those groups signed a memorandum of understanding with Premier Scott Moe on Aug. 12, pledging to partner on five flights into Saskatchewan by March 31, 2023.
The previous flights arrived in July, August and October.
After the fourth flight arrives, passengers will get access to temporary accommodations and services, support and information related to living in Saskatchewan.
