The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s hockey team is off to a hot start this season, thanks in large part to its goaltender.
And she’s starting to get recognized for it.
Camryn Drever was named Canada West’s player of the week on Tuesday.
She helped lead the Dogs to a split of a two-game series with the Mount Royal Cougars, who were leading the league when the teams faced each other last weekend.
Drever was perfect Friday, stopping all 31 shots she faced in a 1-0 victory.
She almost pulled off another shutout Saturday, but the Huskies fell 1-0. Drever faced 24 shots with a .958 save percentage.
The Huskies are now 8-4-2 on the season, putting them fourth overall in the Canada West standings. Saskatchewan has allowed a league-low 18 goals in 14 games.
Drever is 5-4-1 with a 1.37 goals-against average and .943 save percentage with two shutouts this season.
She’ll be looking to keep her season rolling when the Huskies hit the road for games Friday and Saturday in Winnipeg against the Manitoba Bisons.
