Black Friday marks the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season.
Electronic stores around Regina opened early Friday morning to celebrate the occasion and greet eager shoppers.
Staff members at the east-side Wal-Mart said between 15 and 30 people showed up at 6 a.m., when they opened the store’s doors.
Corinne Laviolette was one of the first shoppers in line and said she was able to get away from her night shift early to get a good deal.
“My son wanted an air fryer for Christmas. It was a good deal. It was about $100 off,” she explained.
Laviolette said she normally goes shopping on Black Friday. She added she was surprised with how quiet it was.
“It wasn’t very busy compared to last year,” Laviolette added.
She mentioned Wal-Mart was her only shopping destination for the day.
Meantime, another shopper 980 CJME spoke with wasn’t so focused on buying the usual electronics because she was focused on her pet.
“I came for a cat tree for my cat,” the woman said with a laugh. “It was $70. I didn’t need it, but I just wanted it.”
The woman said she has a two-year-old cat and it would probably get the new tower Friday as opposed to waiting for Christmas.
A cat tower wasn’t the only thing the cat was receiving.
“He got some treats and some of the cat lickable stuff,” the woman added.
She didn’t just buy items for her cat; she said she also got her brother a couple of presents for Christmas.
She added she takes Black Friday off every year to take advantage of the deals. After shopping at Wal-Mart, she mentioned she was going to the Cornwall Centre for more shopping.
