Regina and southern Saskatchewan are about to get hit with another blast of winter.
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning just before 4:30 a.m. for the area and says it could bring 10 to 20 centimetres over the next 24 hours.
The warning includes Moose Jaw, Weyburn and Estevan. Swift Current is not included in the warning.
“Looking at today, we’re expecting about two to four centimetres and around tonight, around 10 centimetres and maybe higher towards the south,” explained meteorologist Kyle McAulay. “This is going to be pretty light snow, but we’ll probably have larger amounts because it’s going to be so light and fluffy.”
Winds won’t be as big of a factor as it was earlier in the week when Regina was hit with a blowing snow advisory, but they will still get to between 20 and 30 kilometres per hour at the peak points of the storm.
McAulay says we’ll see some heavy snow Thursday morning and then a bit of a break before the storm is expected to hit its peak later in the evening.
“We expect the most intense snow to be around mid to early morning and then that kind of tapers off and picks up again this afternoon and gets pretty intense,” he said. “The bulk (of snow) will be falling probably in the middle of the evening and into the overnight hours.”
Another thing people throughout the southern part of the province will need to be mindful of is the temperature will plunge below -20 C.
McAulay suggests people take the proper precautions to make sure they’re ready to handle the winter conditions.
“If you haven’t plugged in your vehicle yet, you’ll probably be doing it in the next three days,” he stated. “Make sure you have extra supplies and bundle up just in case your vehicle dies on you. You’ll want to be prepared.”
On Thursday night, temperatures in Regina are expected to dip down to -22 C. On Friday, the low is expected to be -27 C.
