Canadian Western Agribition is known as the largest farm show in Western Canada and it attracts people from around the world.
This year, Jeremy Walsh decided to make the journey to snowy, cold Regina from New South Wales, Australia.
Walsh works and lives on a family farm in Australia with 400 head of cattle and sheep as well.
He says Agribition is unlike any farm show he’s attended before.
“I think it’s the place everyone in the world should be at the moment,” he stated. “I know people (who) have been over here before and have told us about it back home in Australia and it certainly exceeds expectations.”
He added that it’s amazing to see how everything is so well put together.
“Agribition is certainly next level. Preparation of the livestock is absolutely world class,” he said. “For me, I’m in the cattle industry and the time and the energy spent by people preparing their hair for judging is absolutely top notch. You won’t see any better in the world.”
Walsh says his time in Regina has flown by.
“Where the last three days have gone I’m not too sure,” he explained. “It’s been exciting from eight o’clock in the morning until eight at night. It’s absolutely a world class event.”
Back on his farm, he says things are on the upswing after three to four years of a significant drought.
“We’re on the other end of it and I’d say to those people in Canada on that side of it to hold on. There is light at the end of the tunnel and there is hope,” Walsh said.
“We’re having a phenomenal season at the moment with our beef and commodities at all-time record price. Our bred cows are $4,500, lamb is $300 and it’s phenomenal on the other end of the drought,” he added.
