The winners have been announced in the Hospitals of Regina Foundation fall home lottery.
O’Neil Zuck from Regina took home the grand prize of a $1.3-million showhome along with a $100,000 cash prize.
Zuck was with his wife Lenora on Thursday evening when they learned they had won. O’Neil described what they went through after they won.
“I was just sitting down in the TV room and I noticed the texts started dinging a bit, but the phone wasn’t near me, so I just started disregarding it,” he said.
He then got several phone calls from friends saying he had won the dream home and cash.
“I couldn’t stand up, actually. I was on my knees. I thought I was going to fall down,” he explained.
Zuck said it took him about five minutes before he could stand up and realize what had happened. He got emotional and said it was a life-changing moment, noting they felt like they were on Cloud Nine.
Zuck said he and Lenora have been buying tickets for the lottery for more than 20 years and noted this year they only bought one.
Lenora said they buy every year in order to help support the hospital foundation and the work it does.
“It’s a good foundation to buy into,” she said. “We’ve had to use the hospital emergency room a few times in the last few years, so the money is going to a great place.”
Zuck said he does a lot of volunteering in the community and he understands just how much the money raised from the lottery means for the hospital.
He said he didn’t know if they’ll keep the home or sell it, but said they were grateful for the opportunity.
David and Raymonde Zbeetnoff from Yorkton won the 50/50. They were unable to accept their prize in person on Friday because of road conditions, but ended up winning $526,550.
Tamara Renkas of Regina won her choice of a 2022 Jeep Cherokee, a 2022 MINI Cooper or $45,000.
The lottery this year, including the spring and fall versions, has raised more than $4 million for Regina hospitals.
