The Saskatchewan government is looking to take another item out of federal control.
Following in the wake of legislation like The Saskatchewan First Act and The Saskatchewan Firearms Act, the provincial government on Monday introduced the Saskatchewan Revenue Agency Act.
According to the government, the legislation would create a new agency that would “pursue greater autonomy in tax collection” for the province.
If passed, the act would create the Saskatchewan Revenue Agency, which would administer taxes and would take control of the provincial portion of the corporate income tax system from the federal government.
“This Act is among the steps our government is taking to protect and defend Saskatchewan’s economic autonomy, industries and jobs from federal intrusion and constitutional overreach,” Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said in a media release.
The government said work would begin immediately on creating the structure of a new provincial corporate income tax system.
