The Ponteix RCMP says a 37-year-old man was stopped Saturday and charged with impaired driving — with two young kids in the car with him.
According to the Mounties, officers were patrolling roads in the area as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
At about 4 p.m., an officer clocked a car doing 158 kilometres per hour in a 100 km/h zone. The officer stopped the car and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol.
He was arrested and charged with one count of impaired operation of a conveyance and one count of impaired operation while over the legal limit. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
“Officers ensured the children were safe until a sober adult arrived,” the RCMP added in a media release.
The Mounties reminded drivers that officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers with patrols and checkstops over the holidays. SGI previously has said more than 40 checkstops are planned for December.
