Santa’s helpers have been working overtime.
This year’s Santas Anonymous campaign collected a total of 4,844 toys, along with more than 5,000 teddy bears and more than $57,000 in cash. The donations will help make Christmas special for the 1,970 families signed up this year, with a total of 4,543 children.
According to 980 CJME promotions director Amber Morse, the number of children participating in the campaign jumped by 400 this year, and the community stepped up to help in a big way.
“Our community heard our call for action and donated thousands of toys,” Morse said.
The donations were sorted and counted Tuesday with help from Grade 7 and 8 students at St. Jerome School, who spent five hours going through all of the toys and gifts.
Starting Wednesday, the families who signed up to participate will get to visit Santa’s Workshop to shop for toys for their little ones. The shopping days will continue until Dec. 21.
If community members want to continue to help out with the campaign, monetary donations are still being accepted.
