A Regina man is facing eight weapons-related charges after an incident early Sunday.
Just before 5 a.m., police officers were searching the Glen Elm Park neighbourhood for a vehicle that had evaded police. The officers saw a cab in the area and had it followed on the assumption it could lead them to the suspicious vehicle and possible suspects.
“The cab went to the area of College Avenue and MacDonald Street, where officers observed the occupants from the cab placing an object in a recycling bin. The object was a loaded firearm,” police said in a media release.
“A canine track from the bin led to an address on College Avenue, where a male suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.”
A police search of the house found another gun, ammunition, various bladed weapons and an expandable baton.
The 28-year-old suspect was charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of careless use of a firearm (sawed-off shotgun), careless use of a firearm (sawed-off .22-calibre rifle), possession of a loaded or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace.
He made his first court appearance on Monday.
