A Saskatoon contracting company has been ordered to pay $126,000 after a safety violation led to a worker’s injury last year.
According to the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, King Stud Contracting Ltd. pleaded guilty this month to contravening the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations by failing to ensure that a worker used a fall arrest system while working on a forklift-mounted platform that could be raised and lowered.
In February of 2021, the ministry said, a worker was seriously injured after falling from the platform.
As a result, a provincial court judge imposed a fine of $90,000 and a $36,000 surcharge. Four other charges were stayed.
“Employers are required to provide safe and healthy workplaces, and must provide information, training and experience necessary for employees to perform their jobs safely,” the ministry said in a statement.
