Extreme cold warnings from Environment Canada continued on Thursday, blanketing the majority of Saskatchewan.
According to the weather service, wild chill values of -40 C to -50 C are occurring this week, though the weather is expected to moderate by the weekend.
“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk,” Environment Canada said in a statement accompanying the warnings. “Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the only parts of Saskatchewan spared from the extreme cold warnings were a few northeastern regions, including the areas around Pelican Narrows, La Ronge, Prince Albert National Park and Southend.
On the positive side, with the winter solstice in the rear-view mirror, the days will only get longer and warmer from here.
