For a fifth straight day, extreme cold warnings were in place across Saskatchewan on Friday.
Environment Canada splits the province into 32 regions for its weather alerts and only three of them weren’t under extreme cold warnings as of 9:30 a.m.
Regina and Saskatoon were among the 29 regions under the advisories.
“Extremely cold wind chill values of -40 to -50 are occurring,” the warning said Friday morning. “A period of extreme wind chill values will continue this morning with some areas ending later this morning. The extreme cold is expected to moderate by the weekend.”
According to the Highway Hotline, Highway 363 in the southwest was closed between Neidpath and Hodgeville due to snow drifts and heavy snow. Travel also wasn’t recommended on that road between Hodgeville and Shamrock due to drifting snow.
Seasonal driving conditions existed on most of the province’s roads, but there was poor visibility reported on some highways in the southwest. That included the Trans-Canada Highway from the Alberta border to Carmichael.
