New Year’s Eve is a time when many will be heading out on the town and having fun, and the City of Regina has partnered with SGI to help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the night.
The city has partnered with SGI to offer free bus service through Regina Transit and Paratransit. The free bus service starts at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 and runs until 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 1. According to the city, about 1,800 people took advantage of the free service last year.
Mayor Sandra Masters encouraged all residents to look for a safe ride home on New Year’s.
“I want to thank SGI for partnering with us to provide our residents with a safe alternative ride home,” Masters said in a statement.
“I encourage everyone who is celebrating with family and friends to make responsible choices and take advantage of this free service. As 2022 turns into 2023, I wish everyone a happy and safe New Year.”
Masters’ comments were echoed by Don Morgan, minister responsible for SGI.
“Start 2023 the right way by making the choice to take a safe, sober ride home from your New Year’s celebrations,” Morgan said in the same statement.
SGI and Regina Transit have offered the free transit rides since 1988, the city said.
