Saskatchewan RCMP officers are investigating the sudden death of a 78-year-old man at a Meadow Lake care home, which followed an unspecified altercation between two of the residents.
According to RCMP, police were notified of a man’s death at the continuing care home on Tuesday evening.
“Initial investigation has determined an altercation occurred between two residents at the home,” RCMP said in a statement. “Staff located one of them, a 78-year-old male, injured.”
The 78-year-old went into “medical distress” despite help from staff members, RCMP said, and he was pronounced dead by paramedics. His family members have been notified and offered victim services, RCMP added.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the death, and no charges have been laid. An autopsy will take place soon, RCMP said.
RCMP added that police do not believe there is any current risk to public safety.
