Three men who struggled to drive in the snow ended up in RCMP custody after allegedly carjacking a delivery driver and then getting the stolen vehicle stuck.
According to RCMP, two men approached a delivery driver who was sitting in a parked vehicle on Wednesday evening on 109th Street in North Battleford. RCMP said the men threatened the driver with a gun before forcing the driver out of the vehicle and taking off.
The driver was unhurt, RCMP said.
Officers immediately started patrols in the area, RCMP said, and the delivery vehicle was spotted parked behind a home on 108th Street later that same evening. The officers saw three men try to drive off in the stolen vehicle, police said, but they got stuck in the snow in an alley.
“Officers approached the three male occupants, who were trying to dig out the vehicle, but they fled on foot,” RCMP said in a statement.
“Two were arrested after a brief foot chase and a third was located at a nearby residence. An illegally-modified firearm was also located and seized in the residence during a search the occupants consented to.”
All three suspects are now facing a long list of criminal charges, and were scheduled to appear in court Friday.
“Battlefords RCMP will not tolerate violence toward citizens of our community,” said Inspector Jesse Gilbert, commanding officer of the Battlefords RCMP.
“This was a frightening incident and I’m thankful no one was injured.”
