While some other teams across the WHL made big splashes at the trade deadline, the Saskatoon Blades made a move to improve their roster’s depth.
The Blades acquired forward Jake Chiasson from the Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday in exchange for three draft picks (2023 first round, 2025 second round and 2026 conditional second round).
The move adds some offensive depth to Saskatoon’s roster, as Chiasson has scored 10 goals and 28 points over 37 games with the Wheat Kings this season.
The Edmonton Oilers prospect is known for his two-way play, and Blades GM Colin Priestner said the team has had an eye on Chiasson for a while now.
“He’s someone we’ve really liked since before the bantam draft, and has past experience playing with (Trevor) Wong and (Aidan) De La Gorgendiere at different events, so he should fit in seamlessly,” Priestner said in a statement.
The Blades are back on the ice Wednesday night to host the Portland Winterhawks at SaskTel Centre.
