Canadian National Railway is thanking Regina police for helping clear railway tracks of pedestrians after one of its trains blocked two major streets on Friday.
According to CN, the train was leaving the city and had to stop for operational reasons.
Regina police say they were called at around 5:20 p.m. after CN became aware of pedestrians crossing the railway tracks at Albert Street and First Avenue, despite the arms at the train crossing being lowered.
“Trespassers were going through the train to cross from one side to the other,” CN said.
Police say there was a period of back-and-forth communication where officers would clear the track, only to find out the same thing was happening at the train crossing on Broad Street and First Avenue.
They believe people’s lack of patience was only adding to the delay, which they say caused more frustration.
The train was able to start moving again at around 6:30 p.m., police say.
