After delivering the Cathedral Village Voice for 23 years, 91-year-old Bev McInerney has decided to move on.
McInerney started the paper route in the first place because the previous delivery person wasn’t delivering it on time.
“I wanted to get the paper, so I thought the best way is to deliver it,” she told the Greg Morgan Morning Show. “I was always sure of having a paper right away so I wouldn’t miss anything.”
She made the decision to retire after dealing with extreme cold while delivering the January/February paper in December, McInerney says.
Although McInerney spent her life as a mom most of the time, she says she has worked various jobs throughout her life.
“Like in stores and what not,” she said.
According to McInerney, her route comprised 70 papers and it took her an hour to deliver them.
“I vowed when I retired from working that I would never do anything for pay again,” she said. “I would only volunteer.”
Even though she’s retiring from delivering papers, McInerney says she still lives an active lifestyle.
“I have other things to do,” she said. “That was a small job.”
McInerney attends three exercise classes a week to stay in shape.
“I lead (one) every summer and we use weights as well,” McInerney added.
As for her diet, she says she eats whatever she wants.
“I tried to not eat too much fat when I was younger,” McInerney said. “Not that I gave up peanut butter or bacon or anything I liked.”
McInerney stays happy and healthy by taking daily walks.
“I get bored if I don’t get out and walk,” she said.
Beside exercising, McInerney spends her spare time doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
“I do (jigsaw puzzles that are) up to 1,000 (pieces),” she added.
