The search is on near Pierceland for the occupants of a pickup truck who allegedly fired a shot at another vehicle early Wednesday.
Police said they believe there were four women in the truck and the RCMP considers them armed and dangerous.
“If the pickup truck is seen, do not approach or contact the occupants,” the RCMP said in a media release. “Report the sighting or information pertaining to possible locations of the pickup truck to police immediately by calling 310-RCMP or your local police service.”
Pierceland is about 240 kilometres northwest of North Battleford.
The Mounties said they got a call Wednesday at about 12:30 a.m., from a driver who was headed south on an access road on the Big Island Cree Territory. The caller said the gunshot came from a pickup with very bright headlights that had been tailgating the caller’s vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was described as a silver 2010 GMC pickup truck with a crew cab and a licence plate ending with “WK.”
The Pierceland RCMP patrolled the community looking for the truck and, at about 2:15 a.m., found it driving through the Big Island Cree Territory town site.
Officers tried to pull over the truck, but the driver took off west on Highway 55 toward the Alberta border with the RCMP in pursuit.
“During the course of the pursuit, occupants of the vehicle were throwing items out of the window at the police vehicle,” the release said. “Officers continued to assess the safety of this pursuit and terminated it a short time later to reduce the risk to … the safety of other motorists.”
The Pierceland RCMP officers told the Alberta RCMP about the incident and asked for help in finding the pickup.
The investigation is continuing.
