A couple who got stuck in the ditch now are facing a lengthy list of charges.
The RCMP said its investigation began Jan. 7 at about 2 p.m., when officers from the Yorkton detachment got a call about a vehicle in the ditch along Highway 10 east of Yorkton.
When police got to the scene, they determined the vehicle and its licence plate had been reported stolen from Regina. Police say the male occupant of the vehicle gave them a false name, and then he and a woman in the vehicle refused officers’ orders to get out of the vehicle.
After arresting both people, police searched the vehicle and found 42.6 grams of cocaine, 32.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 9.9 grams of fentanyl, 720 hydromorphone tablets, five grams of liquid concentrate cannabis, and five methylphenidate tablets.
A 25-year-old woman from Regina was charged with one count each of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, possession of fentanyl, and possession of an opioid.
A 33-year-old Regina man was charged with three counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking an opioid.
The man also was ticketed for having, keeping or consuming alcohol in a vehicle, and was arrested on warrants from the Estevan Police Service for flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
More charges were added after police determined the man was involved in an incident Jan. 6 in Pilot Butte, where police had been told of a suspicious vehicle. When an officer approached the vehicle, it sped off and collided with a police cruiser and a garbage bin.
As a result of that incident, the man was charged with flight from a peace officer, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The couple appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court on Friday.
