The WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors defended home ice Tuesday to open a home-and-home series with the Saskatoon Blades.
The Warriors beat the Blades 3-1 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. The teams are to meet again Wednesday, 7 p.m., at SaskTel Centre.
Eric Alarie, Josh Hoekstra and Brayden Yager (into an empty net) scored for the Warriors, who are 3-0-0-1 in their past four games. Egor Sidorov had the lone goal for the Blades, who are 1-3-0-0 in their past four.
Connor Ungar stopped 20 shots for the Warriors. Austin Elliott made 28 saves in Saskatoon’s net.
Moose Jaw improved to 27-14-0-2 on the season and, with 56 points, is just one point back of second-place Saskatoon (27-9-2-1) in the East Division.
