One of the nine people facing charges in the Megan Gallagher case is expected to plead guilty to the one charge against him.
John Wayne Sanderson’s lawyer, Greg Curtis, confirmed his client plans to plead guilty March 1 to offering an indignity to human remains. Curtis expects his client’s sentencing would also take place the same day.
Curtis appeared for his client by telephone in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Wednesday.
When contacted after the court appearance, the Saskatoon lawyer would not reveal what circumstances led to his client’s potential guilty plea, or what kind of sentence may be applied.
Gallagher, 30, was last seen on video surveillance at a convenience store on Diefenbaker Drive in Saskatoon in September of 2020. In January of 2021, police announced they were treating the investigation as a murder.
Her remains were discovered in September along the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis.
Of the nine suspects in the case, four were charged with first-degree murder, three are accused of committing an indignity to human remains, and two are facing charges of aggravated assault and unlawful confinement.
