The so-called Siberian Express brought frigid temperatures to Saskatchewan this week.
While many of Environment Canada’s extreme cold warnings were lifted Tuesday morning, several remained in effect in northern and east-central Saskatchewan on Wednesday.
As of 12:30 p.m., the warnings were still active for Cree Lake, Fond du Lac, Hudson Bay, La Loche, Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Southend, Uranium City, Wollaston Lake and the surrounding areas.
Despite the end of the extreme cold warnings, the temperatures are expected to stay low on Thursday and warm up throughout the weekend.
Environment Canada forecast an overnight low of -35 C for Saskatoon on Wednesday night, and a high of just -21 C on Thursday.
In Regina, the overnight low Wednesday was forecast to be -33, and a high of -24 C Thursday.
Both cities can expect some light snow throughout the day Wednesday, according to the weather service.
Things are expected to warm up significantly by Saturday, with Environment Canada predicting a high of -6 C for Saskatoon and a high of -1 C for Regina.
