More than eight years after a violent street robbery in Regina, police have arrested a suspect.
In a media release Monday, the Regina Police Service said a 25-year-old man had been arrested and charged with two counts of robbery. Because he was 16 at the time of the incident, the man can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
According to police, at around 10:45 p.m. on June 2, 2014, officers were sent to the area of 14th Avenue and Rae Street for a call about an assault. At the scene, officers found an injured youth who subsequently was taken to hospital by paramedics.
“Police learned that two suspects had approached two young males in the area of Victoria Avenue and Broad Street, demanded money, and threatened to shoot the males,” the release said.
“The victims managed to separate themselves from the suspects, losing sight of them until they reached the area of 14th Avenue and Rae Street, where the suspects, carrying blunt weapons, assaulted them.”
A witness called police and the suspects took off. One of the victims was badly hurt, while the other sustained minor injuries.
In Monday’s release, police said “recent developments in the investigation” led to the identification of the 25-year-old suspect. He was arrested on Thursday and appeared in court Friday.
