A Canadian Paralympian is planning to pay tribute to a Canadian icon Thursday.
Tyler McGregor is to visit Echo Valley Provincial Park’s skating loop as part of his cross-Canada Sledge Skate of Hope. McGregor’s goal during the campaign is to skate 42 kilometres in each Canadian province in 2023 to raise $100,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
McGregor, a three-time Paralympian in sledge hockey, was inspired by Fox’s Marathon of Hope.
“The support I’ve received on this journey has been outstanding, and I’m excited to get out to Saskatchewan and meet the locals,” McGregor said in a media release. “One of the best parts of this journey has been experiencing the community feel at each stop, and I’m looking forward to that when I visit Echo Valley.”
McGregor is to skate around the loop in the park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free for anyone with a valid park entry permit, and the park’s visitor reception centre will be open for visitors to buy entry permits.
Echo Valley Provincial Park is about 70 kilometres northeast of Regina.
Saskatchewan Parks is encouraging people to take their skates or walk to the ice to cheer on McGregor.
