An investigation is underway after a 19-year-old inmate was found dead Friday at the Regina Correctional Centre.
According to a release from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the man was found unresponsive in his cell. Staff tried to resuscitate him and called paramedics, who pronounced him dead just before 4 a.m.
The ministry said the man was being held on remand, but didn’t say what charges he faced.
The release said foul play wasn’t suspected in the man’s death and added it wasn’t related to COVID-19.
The RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating, as is the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
