What was originally thought to be a fatal drug overdose is now being investigated as Regina’s first murder of 2023.
In a media release Wednesday, the Regina Police Service said it was working with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to investigate the death of a 36-year-old man last Thursday.
According to police, officers were sent to a house in the Washington Park neighbourhood just before noon for a call about an injured person. Officers were told the man had overdosed.
Shortly after arriving, paramedics pronounced the man dead.
“Further investigation into the circumstances of the death has determined it to be a homicide,” the police release said.
Police said the man’s name won’t be released; his family has been notified of his death. Police also didn’t release the street where the man’s body was found.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
