The Regina Public Library’s Film Theatre and the Saskatchewan Library Association are celebrating the 2023 One Book One Province selection in March.
Michelle Good’s “Five Little Indians” is being feted throughout the month, with the RPL Film Theatre showing a number of films that it says “address the ongoing legacy of the residential school system.”
Among the films being shown is “Bones of Crows” by Métis filmmaker Marie Clements. The film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022.
The film will be shown at the RPL Film Theatre on March 8 and March 9, with a gathering each night at 5:30 p.m. and the screening to start at 7 p.m. The free screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s cast and crew, including actor and First Nations activist Michelle Thrush.
“We are honoured to be joined by contributors to ‘Bones of Crows’ who share connections to this territory, such as Hazel and Kimowan Ahenakew and Michelle Thrush,” Tomas Jonsson, the curator of performance and moving image at the Regina Public Library, said in a release. “RPL Film Theatre is a space for gathering and exchange.”
The RPL also is teaming up with the First Nations University of Canada and the Saskatchewan Library Association to host a conversation with Good and Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, the president of the university.
That event is to be held at the mâmawêyatitân centre on March 23 at 7 p.m., and is to be followed by a reception.
