Police in Battleford have opened a homicide investigation after the body of a 32-year-old man was found inside a burned house.
According to the RCMP, human remains were discovered last Monday inside a house on 27th Street West that was destroyed in a fire Feb. 18.
“Initial investigation has indicated that the individual died as a result of a homicide and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services and fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service identified the remains as those of Gregory Cope, who was reported missing on Feb. 21.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers to make a report.
