Saskatchewan should be thawing out at the end of March, not avoiding frostbite.
However, according to Environment Canada, the early spring cold snap wreaking havoc on the province has led to a third consecutive day of historic temperatures.
Here’s a list of communities that set cold temperature records:
- Last Mountain Lake area -29.8 C (previous record of -22.5 C set in 2014)
- Lucky Lake area -22.1 C (previous record of -19.1 C set in 1996)
- Waskesiu Lake area -24.8 C (previous record of -22.5 C set in 2018)
- Elbow area -23.1 C (previous record of -22.8 C set in 1969)
- Kindersley area -24.0 C (previous record of -20.6 C set in 1954)
- Southend -30.0 C (previous record of -29.4 C set in 1969)
- Estevan area -25.9 C (previous record of -24.4 C set in 1964)
- Rockglen area -20.1 C (previous record of -19.4 C set in 1996)
Key Lake didn’t set a record, but at one point Tuesday morning it was the coldest place in Canada. The mercury fell to a frigid -35 C with a windchill below -40 C.
Climatologist David Phillips told the 650 CKOM Morning Show on Monday there wouldn’t be a significant warmup in Saskatchewan until the middle of April.
