A Notice of Motion in which six members of city council appeared to request a special meeting about the rebranding of Experience Regina was never filed with the city clerk.
According to an emailed statement from the city’s communications department, the signatures of a majority of the members of city council are required to call a special meeting. The clerk’s office didn’t get any such request.
It’s unclear why the motion — a copy of which was obtained by 980 CJME — wasn’t filed.
The Notice of Motion said the meeting should include a presentation from Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) as well as city administration. Each party was to be asked to provide their “preliminary review” of what led to some of the campaign’s branding decisions.
The campaign featured slogans such as “The City that rhymes with Fun” and “Show us your Regina.” Those raised the ire of a number of residents, many of whom questioned the thought process that went into the campaign.
Mayor Sandra Masters has previously alluded to the possibility that the approval process for the slogans wasn’t properly followed, but the public has not been provided with new updates since then.
The letter showed the names of councillors Terina Nelson, Lori Bresciani, Cheryl Stadnichuk, Shanon Zachidniak, Andrew Stevens and Dan LeBlanc, but none of them actually signed it.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been amended to reflect the fact the letter wasn’t signed by the councillors or filed with the city clerk, meaning the special meeting was never scheduled.
