Estevan restaurant uncovers counterfeit currency; investigation underway

Staff at an Estevan restaurant identified fake money on Monday night, resulting in a police investigation.

EPS Const. Danielle Stephany said a $50 bill was determined to be counterfeit.

“It’s a day and age of debit cards. We don’t see cash being used all that often. So I commend the restaurant for noticing that it was counterfeit.”

Stephany mentioned a pair of options for people curious about the legitimacy of any of their cash.

“If people ever are questioning, they are always welcome to attend the police station. We always have some ways of being able to help tell whether or not the currency is counterfeit or not. Or they can attend their local banking institution.”
